When it rains, it pours for the San Diego Padres.
Already eliminated from postseason contention, and losers of six straight, a costly baserunning blunder from slugger Fernando Tatis Jr. in the top of the sixth inning against the Giants killed a late San Diego rally.
Tatis, heading directly towards third base at the crack of the bat, is looking straight in the direction of the ball, which hits the bag and shoots straight up.
To give him the benefit of the doubt, he was probably expecting the ball to shoot further away from Evan Longoria than it actually did, which would have given him an opportunity to steal a run back from the Giants.

Unfortunately for Tatis and the Padres, the ball landed in Longoria’s vicinity and resulted in an easy chase down for the Giants’ third baseman.
Winning by just two runs at the time, the Giants are lucky that Tatis’ aggressive baserunning didn’t result in San Diego cutting the lead in half.
