Detroit (Mich.) King five-star quarterback Dante Moore is listed as the No. 16 overall player in the country per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. On Saturday, the 6-2, 195-pounder from the class of 2023 will make his way to South Bend to check out Notre Dame in action against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
This is an important trip for the Fighting Irish coaching staff, especially quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. The two have stayed in regular contact through Moore’s process and there is plenty of optimism inside the Gug that Notre Dame is a bigger player in this recruitment than most truly believe. Look for Rees to pair Moore up with top receiver target Carnell Tate to ensure that he can spend as much time as possible with the talented duo, who just so happen to be good friends.
Regarding his visit, Moore is expected on campus a few hours before kickoff and will also get some time with head coach Brian Kelly and a few of the current quarterbacks before heading into the stadium for kickoff. He’s already taken the tour of campus and checked out the facilities, so I expect this to be much more of a business trip to see exactly how Rees coaches up his quarterbacks and how the offense looks against the Bearcats.
Moore was actually in South Bend for a visit back in July and loved it. It wasn’t his first trip to Notre Dame and he knew then it wouldn’t be his last either.
“I loved it. I got there late and I was pretty mad because there was a lot of traffic, but I can only control what I can control. I enjoyed myself there,” said Moore of that trip. “The food was fabulous. Whoever cooked the food, man, it was just great food. When I got there, I did a photoshoot with my offensive lineman, Johnathan Slack. My dad was up there with me. We enjoyed ourselves up there. Putting the gold helmets on, it felt great. Overall, talking to coach Rees and the rest of the coaching staff, it was good talking to them. Even though I saw them last month, every time I see them it’s a better feeling.
“Notre Dame is a great school,” he continued. “I always watched college football and they are a winning program. I always loved Notre Dame. It’s always been a great school. I never had no bad feeling about it. But overall, I always liked that school and it’s a blessing being up there. It’s a great school.”
247Sports Scouting Report: Varsity starter since his freshman season. Has played well against top competition and in clutch situations in big games. Mature, polished, does not appear to rattle easily. Stands in against the rush and will deliver throws while taking hits. Does a nice job of reading coverages and does well throwing into windows against zone coverages. Throws with good touch down the field. Can fire it in there when he needs to. Has good arm strength but maybe not a big big cannon. Solid athlete who has added more mobility to his game as the years have gone on, but is not likely to be a big threat as a designed runner, but can do a little bit of that if needed. Physical traits are solid to good, but it is his intangible traits that are elite. Works extremely hard and that total package projects him to be a multi-year college starter and someone who can be an early draft choice.
