CESA announced the winners of the Japan Game Awards 2021 at the Tokyo Game Show. It gave awards to the best-performing developers and games released in Japan from April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021.

CESA held the Japan Game Awards concurrently with the annual Tokyo Game Show. In the 2020 edition, it gave the highest Grand Award to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The 2021 Japan Game Awards included an unusual occurrence. CESA gave the Grand Award to not one, but two games simultaneously. Ghost of Tsushima is immediately available on PlayStation 4 and 5. Monster Hunter Rise is currently available on Nintendo Switch, with a PC version slated to appear on January 12, 2022.
