No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter comments on Instagram regarding FSU commitment status – 247Sports

Florida State‘s crown jewel of their 2022 recruiting class, five-star defensive back Travis Hunter, had some intriguing developments occur surrounding his name over this past weekend. First, on Friday night, he had what was believed to be a bad injury early in his high school football game. He was transported via an ambulance to a local hospital where they determined he wouldn’t need surgery and that the injury wasn’t as bad as previously perceived

He then took much of the recruiting world by surprise when he was spotted in attendance at Georgia’s top ten matchup against the No. 8 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.

That news obviously caused FSU fans to worry as Hunter had been publically adamant that he is locked in with Mike Norvell and the Seminoles despite their early season struggles.

There hasn’t been any on-record reports following Hunter’s trip to Athens. He did, however, make an interesting comment on Instagram. Fellow FSU commitment four-star offensive lineman Qae’shon Sapp made a post yesterday reaffirming his commitment to the ‘Noles reading “WE LOCKED IN.” In the comments of that post, Hunter can be seen replying with “Yessir.”

It doesn’t look like the drama within Hunter’s recruitment will end anytime soon as it is believed the talented Peach State prospect plans to visit some other schools for games during the college football season.

According to the 247Sports Top247 Rankings, Hunter is billed as the No. 1 overall prospect in the country. 247Sports Southeast Recruiting Analyst Andrew Ivins compares Hunter to former FSU cornerback Xavier Rhodes. Here is his full scouting report on Hunter:

“Slender frame with the desired length. Should be able to fill out once lifting in a college strength program. A twitchy, bouncy athlete with elite ball skills that makes plays on both offense and defense. Has exceptional foot quickness and agility. Smooth in the backpedal. Able to flip his hips and mirror wide receivers of all different sizes. No verified speed times, but looks to have a turbo under the hood. Instinctive football player. Has a high success rate in coverage and creates takeaways on a consistent basis. Comfortable lining up on the boundary in man coverage. Not the strongest individual, but will fight with his hands and try to redirect wideouts at the line of scrimmage. Willing tackler that can help out in run support. Totaled over 1,500 receiving yards and eight interceptions as a junior playing in one of the Peach State’s highest classifications. Could be an offensive weapon at the next level, but ceiling is highest on the other side of the ball as he’s a natural ballhawk that has the skillset to be a shutdown corner. All signs point to him being a multi-year starter in college and eventually developing into an early round NFL Draft pick.”
