Giants news, 10/18: Week 6 reaction, Daniel Jones, more – Big Blue View

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Giants defensive captain Logan Ryan calls unit’s effort ‘unacceptable’

“We just didn’t execute in the red area,” Ryan said. “We did not hold them to three [points] enough. We started off pretty well. A couple of short fields [after turnovers], but on defense you have to put out the fire.”

Ryan later added, “For my job, it came down to those red-area stops, making the score 18 or 19-3, or 17, instead of 28, 30. You can’t give up sevens and win this game.”

Giants’ season is toast. Now it’s decision time: Are Daniel Jones, Joe Judge the right guys for this franchise? Maybe not

Jones has now started 32 games, and the Giants are 9-23 in his starts. Yes, the Rams came to New Jersey on Sunday with Pro Football Focus’ fourth-rated defense (and No. 5 offense). Still, this was an inexcusably dreadful performance from a third-year quarterback.

Jones was supposed to be Manning’s heir. But because of Gettleman’s woeful roster building — a blemished resume that might wind up including Jones as a lowlight — it’s laughable to think the Giants could win a Super Bowl in Jones’ fourth season, as they did with Manning.

NFL Week 6 takeaways – What we learned, big questions for every game and future team outlook

What to know: The Giants looked like a JV team against the Rams. They were woefully outmanned and blown off the field on a day when they honored the 2011 Super Bowl championship team. It’s getting ugly for these Giants (1-5). Quarterback Daniel Jones struggled with three interceptions and a lost fumble, and never had much of a chance with the supporting cast around him. Rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) and left tackle Andrew Thomas (ankle) didn’t make it out of the first quarter, joining New York’s lengthy list of walking wounded. And the defense continues to struggle badly. This team needs to get healthy and better, quickly, or it’s going to get worse against a tough schedule. — Jordan Raanan

What do the Giants do now? This team is going nowhere fast. Do the Giants need to make any significant moves in another lost season? Do they need to clean house afterward? This is clearly not what ownership wanted from after spending recklessly in free agency. Co-owner John Mara said before the season he expected this team to be in contention for a playoff spot. That is not going to happen. It was probably not an accident that Mara was nowhere to be seen during Sunday’s halftime ceremony. — Raanan

An “F” for everything besides special teams.
