The New York Jets are making an addition to their quarterback room. The Philadelphia Eagles on Monday traded Joe Flacco to the Jets for a conditional sixth-round draft pick that could turn into a fifth-rounder based on playing time, the Eagles announced.
The Jets apparently felt as though they needed to make an addition at quarterback, as rookie Zach Wilson went down with a strained PCL on Sunday that is expected to knock him out for around two to four weeks. With Mike White the only other quarterback on the active roster, the Jets decided to bring in a veteran who also has some experience with the franchise.

Flacco spent last year with the Jets, and even as the backup for Sam Darnold, he played in five games with four starts and threw for 864 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. Flacco will of course be remembered as the Super Bowl XLVII MVP who quarterbacked for the Baltimore Ravens for 11 years. Now 36, he still wants to compete. When he signed with the Eagles this offseason, he even said he wasn’t there to be a mentor to the young Jalen Hurts. He was there to show people he can play football.
As for the Eagles, they did not have any problem making this deal. According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles wanted to promote former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew to backup — and maybe even eventually starter.
“We feel really good about Gardner being our No. 2,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday, per Zach Berman of The Athletic.
Flacco hasn’t seen any action this season, but that’s about to change.
