Kadarius Toneys Giants status looking better ahead of Chiefs matchup – New York Post

The horn sounded, stretching ended at Giants practice and one of the three big injured playmakers stayed on the field.

Better than none.

As Saquon Barkley headed inside with a trainer and Kenny Golladay moved to a side field with another trainer, Kadarius Toney joined individual drills, which is the strongest indication yet that he is close to returning to action Monday against the Chiefs.

The Giants played the last two games without Barkley (ankle) and Golladay (knee), and the last seven quarters without Toney, who injured his ankle on the opening drive of a loss to the Rams. If he plays, Toney could return punts as well as resume his role as Daniel Jones’ favorite target.

“You can’t draft a guy and say, ‘Oh, this guy has great return ability. He can do all of this,’ and then as soon as he gets here [say], ‘Oh, we can’t put him on punt return. He’s made out of glass, he’s going to hurt himself,’” special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey said.

“He’s a football player. You watch him catch the ball, catch a slant, he’s hard to bring down. Guys like that are a threat. They have coaches up at night thinking about how they’re going to stop the threat. No, we’re just going to try to use our best players and try and win games.”

Sterling Shepard, who has missed three of the last four games, is set to return, too.
