Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett breaks Dan Marinos school record for career touchdowns – ESPN Australia

Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett broke Dan Marino’s school record for total career touchdowns in a 38-34 loss to Miami on Saturday.

With his second touchdown pass of the day, Pickett passed Marino, who set the career mark of 82 between 1979 and 1982. Pickett ended the game with 84 total career touchdowns. He also set a single-game school record with 519 yards, on 39-of-55 passing, and threw three touchdowns and had two passes intercepted. He’s the first player in school history to throw for more than 500 yards in a game.

In the end, Miami freshman quarterback Tyler Van Dyke outdueled the Heisman Trophy candidate, however, throwing for 428 yards and three touchdowns as the Hurricanes handed Pickett his second loss of the season.

Van Dyke completed 31 of 41 passes for the three scores and had one pass intercepted as Miami defeated a ranked team for the second straight week.

In the loss, Pickett also passed Alex Van Pelt’s program record of 11,148 yards in total offense.

Pickett returned to the Panthers for his fifth season, quickly entering into the Heisman conversation as one of the best passers in the country.
