Ex-Jet Damien Woody rips Giants’ Kadarius Toney for idiotic tweet about Henry Ruggs’ fatal crash – NJ.com

Here is yet another sign that Kadarius Toney — the Giants’ promising rookie wide receiver — has a lot of growing up to do.

Toney on Wednesday evening tweeted a completely idiotic and immature reaction to Henry Ruggs’ deadly car crash — for which Ruggs has been charged with DUI resulting in death.

This is what Toney tweeted:

We young…..everybody make mistakes….y’all lookin at the situation like “this or that” kuz it ain’t y’all…having so much too say….he know he messed up don’t drag em for it……that’s goofy to me….just pray for the families involved

It’s hard to imagine a more tone-deaf reaction to Ruggs’ fatal wreck.

Let’s be clear: These were Ruggs’ actions alone. He could have prevented what happened. This wasn’t an accident or simple mistake. And it’s not “goofy” for people to be furious about someone allegedly driving drunk and killing another person. Toney should try telling somebody who lost a friend or family member to DUI that their justified anger is “goofy.”

Former Jets offensive lineman Damien Woody — who is now an ESPN analyst — correctly ripped Toney for his dumb and hurtful words. Here’s what Woody tweeted:

Some of y’all youngins don’t believe in accountability is the problem! A person was killed b/c of a terrible decision

Yes, it’s quite obvious to anyone with a shred of common sense that Ruggs — the now-former Raiders wide receiver — deserves every bit of the criticism and so-called dragging he is getting for what happened early Tuesday morning in Las Vegas.

Ruggs, 22, rear-ended a 23-year-old woman’s vehicle and killed her — after he was allegedly driving 156 mph and had a blood-alcohol level twice Nevada’s legal limit. Ruggs did slow down before he hit the woman’s vehicle — to 127 mph. It was 3:40 a.m., and Ruggs had a BAC of at least 0.161% at the time of the crash, according to the case’s prosecutor.

Just let that all sink in for a moment.

And Toney thinks that people are being “goofy” by publicly expressing outrage at Ruggs? What a completely stupid and insensitive opinion. Toney should be ashamed of himself.

In the age of Uber, there is zero excuse for anyone — especially an NFL player — getting behind the wheel wasted. As prosecutor Eric Bauman said Wednesday, the NFL Players Association since 2013 has provided free safe-ride services for players.

So Ruggs — who has plenty of money, as the No. 12 overall draft pick in 2020 — didn’t even have to pay for a ride home. But now, he could be heading to prison. And there’s a pretty good chance he won’t ever play in the NFL again, after the Raiders released him Tuesday.

Ruggs was a promising young receiver — just like Toney is. Toney, 22, was drafted 20th overall this year. And if the Giants want him to eventually become one of their most prominent stars — and faces of their franchise — they need him to cut out the foolish behavior.

Off the field, there was Wednesday’s disgraceful tweet about Ruggs’ fatal wreck. On the field, there was the punch he threw earlier this season in Dallas. He hit the side of Damontae Kazee’s helmet and was ejected. Toney was lucky he didn’t break his hand.

Bottom line: Toney needs to grow up.
