TALLAHASSEE – McKenzie Milton is expected to start for Florida State today against NC State, Noles247 has learned. Milton is the likely QB1 with starter Jordan Travis expected to miss the contest due to a strain of Influenza that has rapidly spread through both FSU and FAMU campuses, and has impacted the Seminoles football program.
A source shared with Noles247 that Travis was sick late in the week. Milton also felt under the weather during the week, per a source, but he was around the team on Friday evening and made his way into Doak Campbell Stadium with teammates during the Legacy Walk.
Milton, as long as his leg feels good in pre-game warmups, is the expected starter with Travis not at 100 percent. Tate Rodemaker and walk-on Gino English are the anticipated reserves to Milton after Chubba Purdy entered the transfer portal and was removed from the roster earlier this week.
The UCF transfer has started three games for FSU this season, going 0-3. He also came off the bench in the season opener after Travis was injured and unable to return, helping complete a comeback bid and send the game to overtime. Milton, who has dealt with lingering limitations from a serious leg injury that he suffered in 2018, has completed 58 of 93 passes (63 percent) for 548 yards and 2 touchdowns to 4 interceptions. He’s been sacked 8 times, including 6 times in his previous start against Louisville on Sept. 25.
FSU has won just one game in which Travis hasn’t started the past two seasons, a comeback victory over Jacksonville State in 2020 that was fueled by Travis coming off the bench for Rodemaker. The Seminoles opened the week as 2-point underdogs to NC State, moved to 3 points, and settled at 2.5 points for most of the week.
Kickoff is at 4:03 p.m. The game can be viewed on the ACC Network.
