- Today’s Starting XI has an average age of 22 years, 341 days. It is the USMNT’s second youngest Starting XI in World Cup Qualifying, coming in after the lineup that began last month’s 2-1 win against Costa Rica (22 years, 61 days)
- The Starting XI averages 19 caps and nine in official competition.
- Gregg Berhalter makes two changes to the USMNT Starting XI that faced Mexico on Friday, inserting Chris Richards on the back line and Gianluca Busio in midfield. The duo replaces Miles Robinson (red card) and Weston McKennie (yellow card accumulation) who are serving suspensions today.
- Earning his first WCQ start tonight, Busio becomes the 30th USMNT player to begin a qualifier this cycle.
- Five players earn their first away WCQ starts: Gianluca Busio, Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson, Zack Steffen and Tim Weah
- Eight players are age 24 and younger: Antonee Robinson (24); Tyler Adams (22); Brenden Aaronson, Chris Richards and Tim Weah (21); Gianluca Busio (19); Yunus Musah and Ricardo Pepi (18)
- Tyler Adams captains the USMNT for the sixth time tonight, and for the third straight match. The team is 4-0-1 in four previous matches when Adams has the armband.
- Adams and Brenden Aaronson will continue as the lone USMNT players to appear in all eight qualifiers this cycle.
- Seven players took part in the USA’s 2-0 win against Jamaica last month. Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Yunus Musah, Ricardo Pepi, Antonee Robinson and Walker Zimmerman started the match, while Tim Weah came off the bench to replace Aaronson in the 68th minute.
- With a victory tonight, the USMNT would set a new team record for wins in a calendar year. Friday’s 2-0 shutout against Mexico marked the 16th win of the year, tying the previous record set in 2013.
- Tyler Adams, Zack Steffen and DeAndre Yedlin carry yellow cards into tonight’s match. Should any of the trio pick up another caution tonight, they will be suspended for the USA’s next qualifying match against El Salvador on Jan. 27, 2022.
- Substitute defenders Reggie Cannon, Joe Scally and Sam Vines are seeking their USMNT World Cup qualifying debuts tonight. A total of 26 players have earned their first qualifying appearances so far this cycle, tied for second most in team history and three behind the record of 29 set in the 1998 qualifying campaign.
- With teams allowed to dress 23 players, goalkeeper Sean Johnson is a healthy scratch from tonight’s squad. Teams are allowed five substitutions in three different moments.
- Juan Gabriel Calderon of Costa Rica is the referee for tonight’s match. He has previously officiated two USMNT matches, both of which came this year: the 1-0 win against Qatar in the Gold Cup semifinal on July 25 and the 0-0 draw at El Salvador to open World Cup Qualifying on Sept. 2.
- A USA win tonight would be the 20th all-time against Jamaica. The USA has earned 20+ wins against two other opponents, Mexico (22) and Trinidad and Tobago (20).
- The USMNT holds a 19-3-8 record all-time against Jamaica and is 6-1-6 overall in World Cup Qualifiers. The USA is 1-1-4 in WCQs played in Kingston.
- Tonight’s match marks the third time the USMNT has faced the same international opponent four times in a calendar year. The other occurrences came against Poland (1973) and Honduras (2009).
