Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Thursday night’s game against the Saints, according to ESPN.
The club is currently dealing with a coronavirus outbreak and reportedly has up to eight positive tests — including starting right tackle Terence Steele, three offensive coaches, and two of their three strength coaches.
Dallas is entering Thursday’s game coming off back-to-back-losses, falling to the Chiefs in Week 11 and then to the Raiders in overtime on Thanksgiving.
The Cowboys were already without wide receiver Amari Cooper, who missed the past two games while on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He is expected to return to the team on Monday.
CeeDee Lamb (concussion) is expected to be available against the Saints in New Orleans this week after he missed Thursday’s matchup against Las Vegas.
The Cowboys reportedly had virtual meetings after Sunday’s on-field practice.
McCarthy, before the news that he tested positive for COVID-19, said the Cowboys could implement a meeting plan the team previously used last year as part of health and safety protocols.
