Phoenix Suns forward Mikal Bridges has opened up about how they managed to stop the explosiveness of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.
To everybody’s surprise, the Suns put an end to the Warriors‘ sensational winning streak with a 104-96 win on Tuesday. Atop that, Phoenix limited Stephen Curry to just 12 points, in 4-of-21 from the field and 3-of-14 from beyond the arc shooting, his worst tally of the season.
Reflecting on how they got the job done, Mikal Bridges reckoned that it took an entire “team effort” to frustrate Curry as the two-time NBA champ was really a headache to deal with.
“It’s a whole team effort,” Bridges said on stopping Curry via NBC Sports. “What I really did was just be aggressive and be attached with a lot of screens and a lot of slips. But it’s a whole team thing because if one guy messes up on the switch, there’s a slip or a 3 for him. It’s a team effort.”
“I think our coverages and what the coaches put together, our schemes, it was really good and we executed it really well,” he added.
Another stat worth noting was that the Suns were able to force the Warriors into a rare tally of 22 turnovers.
Commenting on the Warriros’ poor performance, Curry confessed that they were just “kind of just throwing it around,” especially in the first half.
The Warriors will face the Suns once again on Friday, and they will be looking to make certain adjustments in trying to bounce back from the devastating loss.
