Last year saw the entire BioShock series (well, its mainline games, at least) arrive on Nintendo Switch, introducing a whole new wave of players to a franchise widely considered to be one of the best in the single-player shooter genre. If you’re one of the many who picked up the series on Nintendo’s platform and are eager to see what’s next, you’ll want to read on.
In a recent Sacred Symbols podcast, journalist Colin Moriarty shares details on ‘BioShock 4’, the unofficial name for the next title in the series. He claims that developer Cloud Chamber is aiming for a 2022 release and that the game will take place in a fictional Antarctic city during the 1960s – UK news outlet VGC claims to have heard similar.
Here’s what Moriarty had to say:
“It takes place in a 1960s Antarctic city called Borealis. [The game is] codenamed ‘Parkside’… I’ve been told that the development team has incredible latitude to get it right. That seems and sounds right to me.”
“Internally the game is very secret and apparently, totally locked up. Apparently the inclination there is that they understand full well that this game will be compared to what [BioShock creator] Ken Levine does. And by the way, [Take-Two] is also publishing Levine’s next game.”
While platforms for this upcoming game are yet to be revealed – there’s always the possibility that BioShock 4 will skip Switch entirely, of course – Moriarty also claims that its story will be linked to past entries in the series. Even if Nintendo fans end up having to play the new title elsewhere, then, all those hours spent with the first three games on Switch will still come in handy.
