A few months ago, it was rumored that the Galaxy S22 Ultra would feature a 200MP camera. However, those rumors were put to rest a long time ago. The smartphone will feature Samsung’s improved 108MP camera sensor, but that doesn’t mean the company won’t move forward with its megapixels war.
According to tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), Samsung will debut its 200MP camera sensors, the ISOCELL HP1, in the Galaxy S series in 2023. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will reportedly feature a 200MP camera sensor, which should offer higher details in still images and videos. It could also provide 4K and 8K video recording with a wider field of view.
The ISOCELL HP1, Samsung’s first 200MP camera sensor for smartphones, was unveiled a few months ago. It is a 1/1.22-inch sensor with a native pixel size of 0.64μm, and it can capture 50MP images in 4-in-1 pixel binning mode and 12.5MP images in 16-in-1 pixel binning mode. This sensor could debut in non-Samsung smartphones sometime next year.
Coming back to the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it will use the third iteration of Samsung’s 108MP camera sensor, which reportedly offers greater details, more accurate colors, and lower noise compared to the ISOCELL HM3 sensor that is used in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It also features a 12MP ultrawide camera and two 10MP telephoto cameras (3x and 10x zoom).
