PS5 and Xbox Series X scarcity keep, which indicates restocks will likely continue through early 2022.
Both Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles were a tremendous success in 2021. During the year, both devices managed to stay out of stock.
Even though demand was incredibly high, restocks were constant and remained strong through December 2021.
Retailers and manufacturers have teamed up to make a solid distribution strategy. Sadly, this is not sufficient to keep up with market demand.
This trend of high demand and supply constraints was a constant through 2021 and indicates restocks are not going away with the arrival of 2022.
PS5 & Xbox Series X Will Continue in 2022 – Chip Shortages & Other Factors
Sony and Microsoft continue to struggle with chip shortages and distribution issues caused by the ongoing global pandemic.
These issues directly affect PS5 and Xbox Series X production and almost guarantee that restocks will continue at least for a good part of 2022.
Recent reports from Bloomberg indicate that Sony is still struggling to get essential components to manufacture its PS5 consoles.
In fact, according to this report, Sony’s CFO Hiroki Totoki informed investors that logistical issues and chip shortages were growing instead of dwindling.
These concerns are directly tied to the resurgence of the pandemic and new lockdowns. Additionally, Sony also lowered its PS5 production target for its fiscal year ending in March 2022.
Needless to say, this complicated and lowered production met with the massive demand the console has is the perfect recipe for scarcity. Thus, leaving us with the sad conclusion that PS5 restocks are not going anywhere in early 2022.
PS5 became the fastest-selling console in Sony’s history, and this popularity does not seem to be going away.

As for Xbox Series X, BBC shared this console is, unfortunately, sharing the same faith as Sony’s all-time best seller.
According to this source, Phil Spencer communicated in September that the microchips shortage would continue beyond Christmas 2021.
Spencer was right, and manufacturers are still struggling to get the required component to make consoles. Xbox Series X is still in high demand, and its restocks will continue for some time during 2022.
According to most tech insiders, there is a chance that things will go back to normal in the latter half of 2022. But, this depends significantly on how the pandemic evolves from this point.
Things are gradually improving with restocks. For instance, Amazon UK had a massive Xbox Series X restock that lasted hours.
Walmart recently fulfilled hundreds of PS5 orders and even sent them earlier than expected.
All these successful restocks led to many gamers celebrating online after getting their consoles on Christmas.
