The MVP of Sunday’s playoff games didn’t even take a snap on the field.
Donna Kelce, the mother of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce, jetted from Tampa to Kansas City on Sunday to catch both her sons in action during wild-card weekend.
Although Jason’s Eagles fell to the Buccaneers, 31-15, the Kelce matriarch got to see Travis and the Chiefs defeat the Steelers. Following the win, Kansas City’s tight end got quite the surprise in his postgame press conference.
“We’ll go first to Donna Kelce,” a Chiefs staffer said during Sunday’s press conference, resulting in a quizzical look from Travis, who replied, “I’m sorry, what?”
Donna then identified herself to the seven-time Pro Bowler, who couldn’t stop smiling.
“Yes, it’s your mom,” Donna quipped. “I actually made it. At a disappointing Tampa game, this was an elation to see you get a touchdown in a playoff game. Oh my gosh, how good did that feel? How good did that feel after all these years?”
Travis, who played quarterback in high school, channeled his inner Patrick Mahomes during Sunday’s game against the Steelers, recording his first career passing touchdown to receiver Byron Pringle in the fourth quarter.
“I used to tell my mom when I was five years old, that I was going to eventually throw a touchdown in the National Football League, I finally got it done,” Travis said. “It only took me nine years. That’s a good question though, mom.”
In addition to throwing a touchdown, Travis also caught a touchdown in the 42-21 win over Pittsburgh. Donna watched the game from a suite with her son’s longtime girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.
“Mama Kelce made it y’all,” Nicole posted Sunday night to her Instagram Story.
With the Chiefs set to host the Bills next weekend in the AFC divisional round, perhaps Donna will make a return trip to Arrowhead Stadium.
