The NBA fined Kyrie Irving $25,000 for using obscene language towards a fan during the loss at Cleveland on Monday night. Irving, who helped the Cavaliers win the 2015-16 title alongside LeBron James, was being heckled during the game.
“Got y’all a championship, and you motherf–kers still ungrateful,” he said to one fan in a video that went viral.
Irving was one of the heroes of the 2016 NBA Finals, hitting the go-ahead 3-pointer with 53 seconds remaining in Game 7.
In the loss Monday, Irving had 27 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
In the latest fan returns for the NBA All-Star Game voting, the Nets’ currently injured Kevin Durant (5,496,513) remains the leader among Eastern Conference players, and is now third overall, behind James of the Lakers (6,827,449) and Stephen Curry of the Warriors (6,019,418). James Harden is fourth among guards, with teammate Irving sixth.
The fan vote accounts for 50 percent of the total vote to determine starters for the game. Players and media members split the other half of the vote. NBA coaches select the reserves. Two captains — the leading vote-getter from each conference — pick from a pool of 22 players. Durant has never had that honor.
The Nets have agreed to deal veteran forward Paul Millsap to a team where he will have a bigger role, The Athletic reported. The 36-year-old Millsap has appeared in 24 games for the Nets and is averaging 3.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 11.3 minutes. He has appeared in just one game since Dec. 27 and is currently out due to “personal reasons.”
DeAndre’ Bembry (back spasms) and Nic Claxton (left hamstring tightness) are questionable for Friday night’s game against the Spurs.
