The Cincinnati Bengals lost a key part of their offense during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs. Tight end C.J. Uzomah was ruled out for the remainder of the game after suffering a left knee injury in the first quarter. Uzomah was carted into the locker room after trying to make a reception on the Bengals’ second offensive possession. The Bengals trailed the Chiefs 7-3 when Uzomah headed into the locker room.
An emotional leader for the Bengals, Uzomah caught 13 of 14 targets in the Bengals’ playoff victories over the Raiders and Titans. He caught a touchdown pass in Cincinnati’s 26-19 win over the Raiders in what was the Bengals’ first playoff win in 31 years. He caught seven passes for 71 yards in Cincinnati’s divisional round playoff win over the Titans. A seven-year veteran, Uzomah caught 49 of 63 targets for 493 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season.
Replacing Uzomah in the lineup is Drew Sample, a three-year veteran who caught 11 passes for 81 yards during the regular season. He set career-highs with 40 receptions for 349 yards during the 2020 regular season.
