Breaking: Michigan lands speedy 2023 RB Cole Cabana – 247Sports

The Michigan Wolverines have commitment No. 5 in their 2023 recruiting class as in-state running back Cole Cabana announced his verbal to them on Saturday at Dexter (Mich.) High School.

Cabana was offered by the Wolverines in mid-January, but had been to a game in the fall and built a relationship with Mike Hart through several months before the offer was extended. He was on campus for a junior day when he received the offer and then returned for a second time before the month was over.

“Michigan is the right choice for me because right off the bat, it felt like home,” he said. “It is also the school that is going to give me the best opportunities for making it to the next level as well as academically. I love everything about Michigan.”

Hart and the staff have told Cabana they will be taking two running backs, one being a bigger power back while Cabana is their speed back. He is certainly capable of being that having been timed as low as 4.34 in the forty-yard dash as well as 6.85 in the 60-meter dash and 10.69 in the 100-meter dash.

He used that speed to rush for 1,688 yards and 24 touchdowns as well as catch 32 passes with four touchdowns as a junior.

His teammate Brennan Parachek is committed to Michigan State and Cabana did consider an offer from the Spartans at one time.

“I haven’t announced it yet but people definitely have their predictions,” Cabana said earlier in the week. “Brennan assumes it’s Michigan and jokes around about it and gives me a hard time. I think he wanted to be teammates because that would of been sweet but at the end of the day he wanted me to go where I was going to be happy and most successful.”

The two will play together one more time in the fall as Dexter has big aspirations for their 2022 campaign based on the talent they return.

Then it will be off to Michigan Stadium for Cabana. He got a taste of being a recruit in The Big House in the fall and will now have playing in that environment to look forward to.

“It’ll be interesting playing in The Big House for the first time,” he said. “That’s a lot of people. Nothing else like it in America. I’m excited for it no doubt and ready to put on a show for the fans.”

Cabana is undecided on what he will major in at Michigan, but is considering Marketing or Sports Medicine.
