Everyone is trying to predict where Jimmy Garoppolo will end up this offseason. This week, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback sounded like a man who knew his time with the Bay Area squad had come to an unceremonious end.
“I’ve got a long career ahead of me,” Garoppolo told reporters in what was likely his last press conference as a Niner. “I’m excited about it. I’m excited about the opportunities to come. I just want to go to a place where they want to win. That’s really what I’m in this game for.”
If that’s Garoppolo’s criteria for his next team, FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd has a suggestion for a destination.
“I will say Pittsburgh feels right,” Cowherd said on his show, The Herd. “Pittsburgh has averaged about nine-and-a-half wins over the last three years. That’s with leading the NFL in sacks for five straight years, a Hall of Fame coach, always way-above-average receivers, and now a sensational rookie tight end.
“And they’re winning about nine-and-a-half games a year. What does that tell you? Ben was really bad. So, I think Garoppolo today in Pittsburgh is a significant upgrade. Really, I do. Garoppolo is a significant upgrade today over Ben Roethlisberger.
“If you lead the NFL in sacks every year for half a decade, you have a Hall of Fame coach, you have really nice weapons, and I say they win about nine games [a year].”
Cowherd believes Garoppolo could flourish in the AFC North, despite a representative from the division playing in the Super Bowl. Garoppolo is coming from a competitive NFC West, after all.
It’s starting to sound like there might be some demand for Garoppolo. What might it take for the Steelers to outbid other interested teams? Cowherd doesn’t believe San Francisco should necessarily focus on acquiring a draft pick for the veteran quarterback.
“I think Garoppolo to Pittsburgh,” Cowherd continued. “You get Garoppolo over to the AFC; it’s good for him. I’d absolutely sign him to a two-year deal, and if I was the Niners, [I tell the Steelers], ‘Give me one of your corners. I don’t want a draft pick. You give me a corner, and you can have Jimmy.'”
Report it.

49ers can trade Jimmy Garoppolo as early as March 16, can agree to terms before then
Last season, the language in Jimmy Garoppolo’s contract handcuffed the San Francisco 49ers. The no-trade clause prevented them from moving the quarterback without his consent. The team insisted that it wanted to hold onto Garoppolo but flirted with nearly every available quarterback that offseason and drafted Garoppolo’s eventual successor, Trey Lance.
Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game felt like the end of Garoppolo’s time with the 49ers, despite one more year remaining on his contract. This offseason is different, though. This offseason, there is no no-trade clause, something known for a long time but
Rapoport on how Jimmy Garoppolo’s surgery, 4-6 week recovery might impact trade from 49ers
As expected, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will undergo surgery on the torn ligament in his right thumb this offseason. While most expect Garoppolo to be playing elsewhere next season, nothing is certain at this point. The veteran quarterback still has a year remaining on his contract, but the 49ers aren’t limited by a no-trade clause anymore, which means there are few barriers in offloading him.
Whether it’s more noteworthy for the 49ers or potentially another future NFL home, Garoppolo is expected to have surgery soon.
“Well, the number one most important thing for Jimmy Garoppolo is to get healthy,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network. “It has been a lot. It’s the thumb, it’s the shoulder. It sounded like every single time he threw
ESPN simulates 49ers trade choice for Jimmy Garoppolo among these four predicted suitors
ESPN seems to believe that there will be a significant market for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The sports entity recently held a fascinating exercise utilizing several of its contributors. ESPN wanted to predict the offseason moves when it comes to starting quarterbacks.
The exercise involved asking ESPN reporters to represent the general managers for the respective teams they cover. The stand-in GMs submitted offers for names like Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Garoppolo. Then, it was up to the reporter (or stand-in GM) for the quarterback’s team to look over the offers

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers in sub-zero temperatures off a game-winning Robbie Gould 45-yard field goal that put them ahead 13-10 as time expired.
In a hard-fought, gutsy, come-from-behind performance, Jimmy Garoppolo showed up when it mattered, with significant help from special teams and a masterful defensive performance, to put away the #1 seed in the NFC.
“It took everything,” Garoppolo told FOX Sports’ Tom Rinaldi after the game. “We knew it was going to. I mean, just offense, defense, special teams, everybody stepping up, doing their part. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
As they’ve done on so many occasions in the Jimmy Garoppolo era, the 49ers compiled a game-winning drive after the defense stopped the Packers
