Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 gets disappointing release date update – Digital Spy

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s sequel was set to be one of the biggest releases of 2022, but now it has been delayed into next year.

In a video uploaded to Nintendo’s official social media channels, the franchise’s producer Eiji Aonuma made the announcement, explaining that the scope of the game meant it needs more development time.

“We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for this game,” he stated.

“However, we have decided to extend our development time a bit and change the release to spring 2023. For those of you who have been looking forward to a release this year, we apologise.

“As previously announced, the adventure in this sequel will take place not just on the ground as in the previous game, but also in the skies above. However, the expanded world goes beyond that, and there will be an even wider variety of features you can enjoy, including new encounters and new gameplay elements.

“In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer.”

The news might be disappointing, but it’s important to remember that the original Breath of the Wild was delayed from 2o15 until 2017, and became one of the best-reviewed games in the entire series.

While this announcement has led to plenty of speculation that Nintendo might bring the previously-Wii U only HD remasters of The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to Switch in 2022 instead, absolutely nothing has been confirmed or implied by the company.

There’s still a host of big games coming out this year for Switch, including Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3 and Bayonetta 3, while Nintendo Switch Sports and Mario Strikers Battle League are comebacks for series that have been dormant for a while.
