Source: Five-star QB Arch Manning is visiting Virginia – 247Sports

Virginia football has a big visitor on Grounds.

A source tells Wahoos247 that UVA is hosting five-star quarterback Arch Manning on a visit on Friday.

The son of Cooper, and nephew of Peyton and Eli, is the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2023.

According to a source, Manning has met with Virginia head coach Tony Elliott and attended a few meetings during his visit. The New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman signal caller is familiar with Elliott even before visiting the Wahoos, since Manning was being recruited by Elliott when he was the offensive coordinator at Clemson.

Manning has plenty of Virginia connections. His mom, Ellen is a UVA graduate, while his aunt and Peyton’s wife, Ashley,  graduated from the University of Virginia and Peyton gave the Valedictory Address in 2014. Arch Manning’s sister, May, is currently a student at UVA.

Manning debuted Aug. 19 as 247Sports’ top quarterback and remains No. 1. Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas are among Manning’s options in play, according to 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

Midlands regional recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks, in a Sept. 24 scouting report, wrote the following of Manning’s game:

“Good height and overall frame potential. Relatively lean, athletic build and carries existing weight well. One-of-a-kind quarterback pedigree. Natural pocket passer with pro-style feel, but good functional athlete with terrific off-schedule instincts and playmaking ability. Junior season has shown improved running ability in designed situations and continued dangerous scrambling effectiveness. Looks first to throw when on the move, but capable of gaining chunk yards and converting money downs with his legs. Has repeatedly shown ability to throw accurately outside of the pocket, including when throwing across his body. Calm field demeanor yet poised and competitive simultaneously. Quick, natural release. Accuracy among his best traits. Processes quickly and picks apart defenses in the short-to-intermediate game. Displays requisite vertical arm strength and in-the-bucket touch on deep shots. Impressively pairs velocity and touch to fit throws into zone windows. Elite pocket awareness. Sixth-sense ability to feel pressure and avoid rushers. Good size but still filling out frame, which will continue to raise the ceiling on arm capacity. Does not face elite high school competition, but feel for the game and pedigree will translate regardless. One of the nation’s top prospects regardless of position. Likely multiyear high-major starter with first-round NFL Draft ceiling.”
