The San Francisco 49ers never received a trade offer that made them reconsider their stance that Deebo Samuel must remain on the roster. He’s not just a wide receiver for the team. Last season, Samuel showed that he could do it all, contributing 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns receiving and rushing during his breakout third-year campaign.

The 2022 NFL Draft is behind us, and Samuel remains on the roster after recently requesting to be traded. The 49ers hope to mend the relationship between team and player. However, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Samuel remains intent on leaving the 49ers.

It appears he is still dug in, still wants to be traded despite getting through the draft,” Fowler said over the weekend. “But he knows this could be a long wait now that the 49ers did not do a deal.”

On Friday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic revealed what the New York Jets offered for Samuel—the No. 10 overall pick and a fifth-rounder in exchange for the player and the 49ers’ second-rounder. To say that the offer is insulting, given Samuel’s value, might be considered an understatement.

One other NFL team made an offer for Samuel—the Detroit Lions. We already knew that. However, Ian Rapoport offered insight into what was included in the offer.

“The Lions offer was, I think, a one and a three, and the 49ers didn’t view that as a good enough offer [either],” Rapoport told Rich Eisen on Monday. “And they wanted to keep the player anyway, so they just didn’t trade him.”

With no offer enticing enough to make the 49ers consider parting ways with Samuel, the team went through with the draft and figured it would work on making things right with the receiver afterward.
No one is 100 percent certain what caused the rift between the 49ers and Samuel. Neither side is disclosing that. There has been a lot of speculation, though. Some believe it is the contract situation. Others felt Samuel had issues with his role as a dual-threat weapon. There was even a report that he didn’t want to be in California. Obviously, that last one would be out of the 49ers’ control. Of course, a large sum of money is a good way to move past such obstacles.

Samuel has suggested that some of the speculation misses the mark. However, he has been unwilling to offer any insight into the reasoning for his trade request.

“I’d say there was some other issues below the surface that Deebo feels some sort of way about,” Rapoport said. “We’ve seen it get fixed in the past … We’ve seen players who asked to be traded and then came back, so it’s not impossible.

“And [general manager John] Lynch and [head coach Kyle] Shanahan are very charismatic, so perhaps they can do it. But they’ve got to bring Deebo back into the fold. They’ve been willing to do a contract. That generally helps people feel better.”

49ers insider reveals what Jets offered for Deebo Samuel

No wonder the San Francisco 49ers weren’t interested. Matt Barrows of The Athletic has revealed what the New York Jets offered to John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan for their star wide receiver, Deebo Samuel, and it is underwhelming.

“49ers might have been persuaded by a king’s ransom offer for Deebo Samuel,” wrote Barrows. “What they got was significantly less than that. Per a league source, the Jets offered pick No. 10 and a 5th rounder in exchange for Samuel and the 49ers’ 2nd rounder, No. 61 overall.

“Source said the Lions’ offer also was ‘light.’ Which seems to underscore that Samuel means more to the 49ers than he does to other teams.”

He definitely means more to the 49ers

49ers reportedly offered this deal to Deebo Samuel, two sides remain far apart

The San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Deebo Samuel appear far apart in contract negotiations. Maybe over $6 million annually apart. Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network reports that Samuel seeks an annual salary in the range of $25 million. That would not make him the highest-paid receiver in the league—that’s Tyreek Hill at $30 million annually—but could catapult him into the top four.

That doesn’t sound unreasonable given what Samuel meant to the 49ers this past season, producing 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns. However, that was just one season and his first surpassing 1,000 receiving yards. That may be San Francisco’s argument. The team is reportedly offering significantly less than Samuel’s asking

Rapoport: Deebo Samuel’s frustration with how the 49ers use him played part in trade request

Deebo Samuel was the San Francisco 49ers’ do-everything player in 2021. He caught passes. He ran the football out of the backfield. He even threw a touchdown pass. Samuel amassed 1,770 total yards and 14 total touchdowns last season, not counting the touchdown pass.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Samuel had asked to be traded. NFL insider Ian Rapoport immediately went on NFL Network to discuss the situation after revealing the wide receiver asked to be traded more than a week ago, adding that the relationship soured about two weeks ago, around April 6.

Rapoport believes Deebo Samuel told 49ers not to make a contract offer

On Thursday, Damon Bruce of 95.7 The Game reported that the San Francisco 49ers have yet to offer a contract extension to wide receiver Deebo Samuel. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, that may be partly true. However, the NFL insider paints the picture of the 49ers not making an offer because Samuel has shut them out.

Also, a video has circulated that seems to feature Samuel saying that he doesn’t have an offer from the 49ers.

“First of all, I have not corroborated that this is real,” Rapoport said Friday on the Pat McAfee Show. “I believe it is. But I want to talk on the assumption that it is real, and that the people in the video are who they
