The Bruins had just taken a 3-1 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes in the second period, when the plexiglass panel dislodged and fell on the NHL off-ice official. Trainers from both teams immediately rushed to his aid, and a stretcher was brought onto the ice and further medical attention given to the official. The crowd applauded as the official was placed onto a stretcher and taken from the ice for medical attention. He was conscious, alert and moving. NESN’s broadcast identified the off-ice official as Joe Foley, the time-out coordinator, who coordinates the specific times television timeouts and commercial breaks are taken during the game. “Our thoughts are with the NHL off-ice official who was injured,” the Bruins said in a tweet. “We are sending him our best wishes.”An NHL spokesperson said Foley was taken to nearby Massachusetts General Hospital for observation.Play resumed with a police officer in the stands to maintain a barrier between the glass and fans.
