Parents, Take More Pictures of Yourself

There are lots of reasons that parents– and yes, particularly moms– evade the video camera. We have not had an appropriate nights sleep in numerous years, as the dark circles under our eyes can testify. Or we simply got up and our pajamas have holes in them and our hair is disheveled. Or we havent lost the baby weight all these months or years later. Plus, you can inform its going to be an unflattering angle.

Stop that. Get in the picture with your kids. Let them (or your partner, or your pal) take photos of you relaxing on the couch with the dog or hanging your legs in the swimming pool.
The number of people matured with parents or grandparents who prevented any and all images? I personally understand one mom– Im not gon na call names!– who would toss up a hand to obstruct her own face anytime someone dared to attempt to snap a shot. That same mother eventually continued and ended up being a grandma to dodge picture ops with her grandkids. Until one day when I pointed out that there were couple of, if any, photos out there of her with her grandchildren.

How many of us grew up with parents or grandparents who avoided any and all images? That exact same mother eventually continued and ended up being a grandmother to dodge photo ops with her grandkids. Didnt she believe her grandchildren would want images of her one day? As a basic rule, I do not delight in images of myself, especially candid pictures. One thing I have discovered is that an image I hate of myself today is a picture I usually dont mind too much a couple of years later.

Didnt she think her grandchildren would desire images of her one day? Wouldnt they desire to remember how involved she remained in their lives? Would not they see past a bad angle and instead be able to hang onto a delighted memory from a trip or a holiday?

As a basic rule, I do not enjoy pictures of myself, particularly candid images. One thing I have actually seen is that a picture I dislike of myself today is a picture I normally do not mind too much a couple of years later.
Whatever the case, take images with your kids. Let them take images of you.
