Fox News announced it has hired Olympic champion and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner as a paid contributor, with her first appearance set for Thursday on Sean Hannity’s program.

Jenner, 72, the former Olympic decathlete, ran an unsuccessful campaign for California governor last year as a Republican. She was defeated by incumbent Gov Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, finishing 13th in the recall election.

The network said Jenner, who is a transgender woman, will offer commentary and analysis across various Fox News Media platforms.

‘Caitlyn’s story is an inspiration to us all,’ said Suzanne Scott, Fox News Media CEO. ‘She is a trailblazer in the LGBTQ+ community and her illustrious career spans a variety of fields that will be a tremendous asset for our audience.’

Jenner wrote on her Instagram page, which is followed by 12.7million users: ‘I am humbled by this unique opportunity to speak directly to @foxnews millions of viewers about a range of issues that are important to the American people.’

Jenner is considered a polarizing figure in the LGBTQ community for espousing conservative views on a wide variety of topics, including gender identity.

Last week, Jenner waded into the controversy raging around transgender University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas, who won the the women’s NCAA Championships.

Florida Gov Ron DeSantis, a Republican, proclaimed that Emma Weyant, who took home silver, was the real winner, and Jenner concurred, tweeting: ‘[Emma] is the rightful winner! It’s not transphobic or anti-trans, it’s COMMON SENSE!’

Jenner won the Olympic gold medal as a man in the decathlon in 1976. She came out as transgender in 2015 and now identifies as a female.

A native of Mount Kisco, New York, Jenner graduated from Graceland College in Iowa, having attended on a football scholarship, but an injury prompted a return to track and field.

Jenner took up the decathlon and only one year later qualified for the 1972 Olympic team, placing third at the trials and tenth at the Munich Games.

Jenner is the parent and step-parent of 10 children, including Kim Kardashian and her sisters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, with whom she appeared on E! Network’s long-running reality TV show Keeping Up with The Kardashians, which wrapped up last year.

Just months before coming out as transgender and appearing on Vanity Fair’s iconic cover in 2015, Jenner was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in California that killed 70-year-old Kim Howe and injured several other people.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges against Jenner because of insufficient evidence. She later reached separate settlements with the victims of the collision.
